Ask ten developers in India what a website costs and you will hear ten numbers, anywhere from ₹3,000 to ₹10 lakh. None of them is necessarily wrong. They are pricing different things: a one-page template, a ten-page business site with a CMS, an online store, or a custom web application with logins and dashboards.

To make quotes comparable, we'll look at ranges by website type, by who builds it and by platform, plus the yearly costs most quotes leave out. That way you're not picking the lowest number and paying for it later.

Quick Answer: Typical Website Costs in India (2026)

These are market ranges we see across India for professionally built websites. They are not fixed prices, and the same project can sit at either end depending on scope.

Website typeTypical cost in IndiaTypical timeline
Static website (1–5 pages, brochure-style)₹5,000 – ₹20,0003–7 days
Business website with CMS (8–15 pages)₹25,000 – ₹80,0002–4 weeks
Ecommerce store (Shopify or WooCommerce)₹25,000 – ₹2,00,0002–6 weeks
Custom-designed corporate website₹50,000 – ₹2,00,0003–6 weeks
Custom ecommerce (Next.js, headless)₹1,00,000 – ₹5,00,0006–10 weeks
Web portal or web application₹1,00,000 – ₹10,00,0001–4 months

At INDOTREX, a static website starts from ₹5,000 and a dynamic CMS website or ecommerce store starts from ₹25,000. Custom portals and applications are quoted after a scoping call. If you are in Delhi, Noida or Gurgaon, our Delhi NCR pricing guide goes deeper into local project examples.

Cost by Who Builds It

The same five-page website can be priced very differently depending on who you hire. Each option has a place.

OptionTypical costGood forWatch out for
DIY builder (Wix, Hostinger Builder, Shopify)Monthly or yearly subscriptionVery small budgets, testing an ideaYour time, limited SEO control, rent you pay forever
Freelancer₹5,000 – ₹40,000Simple sites with a clear briefAvailability, no backup if they disappear, unclear ownership
Small agency or studio₹15,000 – ₹1,50,000Most small and mid-sized businessesTemplate work sold as "custom"
Mid-size or large agency₹1,00,000 – ₹10,00,000Complex sites, multiple stakeholdersOverheads you pay for, junior staff doing the work

A good freelancer can build a better site than a weak agency. What you are really paying for is process: a written scope, testing, someone answering the phone six months later, and code and logins handed over in your name.

Cost by Platform

Your platform choice decides not only the build cost but also what you pay every year after launch.

WordPress

The most common choice in India for business websites and blogs. Building is affordable because themes, page builders and plugins do a lot of work. Ongoing cost comes from hosting, premium plugin licences and updates. A WordPress site that is never updated is the single most common source of the hacked websites we clean up. Our WordPress malware removal guide explains why.

Shopify

Quick to launch and low on maintenance, which is why many D2C brands start here. The build cost is lower than custom ecommerce, but you pay Shopify's monthly plan, paid apps and, when you use a third-party payment gateway, a Shopify transaction fee on lower plans. Our Shopify development guide for Delhi NCR covers the real setup costs.

WooCommerce

WordPress plus a store. Cheaper to run than Shopify if you are comfortable managing hosting and updates, and very flexible for Indian needs like COD rules, GST invoices and pincode checks. See our WooCommerce vs Shopify comparison for a five-year cost breakdown.

Custom (Next.js, React, Laravel)

Higher upfront cost, lower long-term rent, and full control over speed and features. It makes sense when you have custom workflows, heavy traffic, or a site that has outgrown plugins. We compared the two routes in Shopify vs a custom Next.js store.

The Yearly Costs Most Quotes Leave Out

A website is not a one-time purchase. Budget for these from day one.

ItemTypical yearly costNotes
Domain (.in or .com)₹500 – ₹1,500First-year offers are often cheaper than renewals
Hosting₹2,000 – ₹30,000Shared hosting at the low end, managed or cloud hosting higher
SSL certificateUsually freeMost good hosts include free certificates
Business emailPer user, per monthGoogle Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail
Premium themes and plugins₹0 – ₹20,000Annual licences for updates and support
Maintenance (AMC)₹6,000 – ₹1,80,000Updates, backups, security and small changes

That last line varies the most. We explain what a fair maintenance plan should include in our guide to website maintenance services and AMC plans.

Also check whether a quote includes GST. Website development is a taxable IT service in India, normally at 18%, and a ₹50,000 quote "plus GST" is ₹59,000 in your bank statement.

What Actually Changes the Price

Two businesses asking for "a website" are rarely asking for the same thing. These are the factors that move a quote up or down:

  1. Number of unique page designs. Twenty pages that share three templates cost less than ten pages that each look different.
  2. Who writes the content. If you supply text and photos, the project moves faster and costs less. Copywriting and photography are separate skills.
  3. Content management. A static site is cheaper to build but needs a developer for every edit. A CMS costs more once and saves money every month after.
  4. Integrations. Payment gateways, WhatsApp, CRM, shipping, booking calendars and ERP links each add work and testing.
  5. Custom features. Calculators, member logins, dealer pricing, multi-language content and search filters are where budgets grow.
  6. Design depth. Adapting a quality theme is cheaper than designing every screen from scratch in Figma.
  7. Timeline. A rush job needs more people at the same time.

A 3-Year Cost Comparison

Comparing launch prices alone can mislead you. Here is an illustrative comparison for a small business website over three years. The numbers are examples to show the method, not quotes.

Cheap template siteProperly built CMS site
Build₹8,000₹35,000
Hosting and domain (3 years)₹9,000₹15,000
Fixes, hacks or rebuild₹25,000 (rebuilt in year 2)₹0
Maintenance (3 years)Paid per issue₹30,000
Approximate 3-year total₹42,000₹80,000

The cheaper site is not always the cheaper choice once you count the rebuild, and the downtime and lost enquiries that come with it. On the other hand, if your business only needs a simple online presence, a ₹5,000 static site is perfectly sensible. The point is to pay for what you actually need.

How to Compare Website Quotes

Put every quote you receive through the same checklist:

  • Is the scope written down, page by page, with features listed?
  • Is the platform named (WordPress, Shopify, custom)?
  • Who owns the domain, hosting account, code and admin logins after launch?
  • How many revision rounds are included?
  • Is basic on-page SEO included: titles, meta descriptions, sitemap, Search Console setup, image optimisation?
  • Are mobile testing and speed targets mentioned?
  • What happens after launch: is there a free support period, and what does maintenance cost?
  • Does the price include GST, premium plugins, stock images and hosting?

If a quote cannot answer these, it is not really a quote yet.

Red Flags in Cheap Website Offers

  • "Website in ₹2,999 with free hosting forever." The hosting is usually tied to the seller, and leaving later means losing the site.
  • Domain registered in the developer's name. Always register your domain in your own name and email.
  • Nulled (pirated) themes and plugins. They often carry hidden malware and never receive security updates.
  • No staging site or testing. Changes made directly on the live site break things in front of customers.
  • Guaranteed first-page Google ranking. Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings.

How to Reduce Cost Without Cutting Corners

  • Start with fewer pages and add more as your business grows.
  • Prepare your text, logo and photos before the project starts.
  • Choose a good theme and customise it instead of a fully bespoke design, unless your brand needs one.
  • Avoid features you cannot yet use, like multi-language content for a single-city business.
  • Ask for a CMS if you will update content often. It is cheaper than paying for every edit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum cost of a website in India?

A simple static website of one to five pages typically starts around ₹5,000 from a professional developer. DIY builders cost less upfront but charge a subscription every month or year.

How much does a business website cost in India?

A business website with a CMS, eight to fifteen pages and basic SEO usually costs between ₹25,000 and ₹80,000, depending on design, content and integrations.

How much does an ecommerce website cost in India?

A Shopify or WooCommerce store usually costs between ₹25,000 and ₹2,00,000. Custom or headless ecommerce builds typically start around ₹1,00,000.

Are there yearly costs after the website is built?

Yes. Plan for domain renewal, hosting, business email, plugin licences and maintenance. For a small business website, these commonly add up to ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 a year.

Is GST charged on website development in India?

Website development is a taxable service in India, normally at 18% GST. Small freelancers below the registration threshold may not charge GST, so always check whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of tax.

Should I choose a freelancer or an agency?

A freelancer suits small, well-defined projects. An agency suits projects that need design, development, testing and long-term support from a team, or where you cannot afford the risk of one person becoming unavailable.
